Homebuying Checklist

GATHER FINANCIALS

  • Request your credit report from all 3 credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, and Transunion). Fix any errors.
  • Compile necessary documents, including pay stubs, bank statements, and past tax returns.

RESEARCH MORTGAGES

  • Find out if you qualify for a special loan, such as a VA, FHA or HUD homebuying program.
  • Request quotes from multiple lenders and comparison shop for loans. If you need a list of lenders, we’d be happy to supply you with some places to start.

EXPLORE NEIGHBORHOODS

  • Find properties in your price range in your favorite neighborhoods.
  • Get a sense of whether the neighborhood is on an upswing or downswing by looking for features that denote up-and-coming areas.
  • Spend time at each area, imagining yourself living there. Go at different times of day for the best picture.

FIND A REALTOR®

  • Ask questions, and pick someone that you are comfortable working with. Buying a home can sometimes take a while.

MAKE A HOME SHOPPING LIST & DISCUSS WITH YOUR REALTOR®

  • Get a head start by compiling your home wish lists. (See our Buyer Questionnaire). You should break your list into must haves, such as required minimum number of bedrooms and bathrooms; nice-to-haves, such as a fenced yard or fireplace; and dream features, such as a hot tub.

START HOUSE HUNTING

  • Browse listings online or download an app.
  • Visit open houses. Be sure to let them know you are working with a REALTOR® already if yours does not come with you.
  • Have your REALTOR® send you a list of homes that have your desired features.
  • Have your REALTOR® schedule private showings.

HAVE YOUR REALTOR® SUBMIT YOUR OFFER & ENJOY YOUR NEW HOME!
